After a long hiatus, I am back to start talking more politics and mostly disgust with what is currently considered America’s Elected Government. There is currently so much negativity in the U.S. government that it can be almost overwhelming to even think about. I in no way like to be an alarmist or a pessimist, but lets be honest with ourselves, the current bribery, lack of transparency and will to represent, dishonesty, and seeming complete loss of integrity with many of our elected officials IS ALARMING! The current state of affairs in this great nation often has me wondering what on earth is our future going to look like, so lets dive into what’s going on.

Firstly, with the whole idea of bribery in the Senate to buy votes for the healthcare bill. Stop kidding yourselves in saying its not bribery. The excuse that, “they’re doing what’s in their best interest for their state” is just flat out ridiculous, if they don’t support the bill without millions of dollars being thrown into their state then their vote should be no, otherwise its a bribe…sorry. Furthermore, do not take my tax dollars and add salt into the already festering wound which is this proposed healthcare bill (by way of additional “back room” funding to particular senators’ states, I might add).

Lets have a talk about lack of transparency, shall we? Join me in a stroll down memory lane that is only about a year long anyway. The platform for President Obama’s campaign was based heavily on the idea of transparency and voting for “change.” Change that the American people aren’t seeming too thrilled with now adays. The next move as we came close to election time, and well afterward, was to start attacking the Bush Administration for their “secrecy” or “lack of transparency” regarding the use of Water Boarding…on terrorists (I won’t call it torture for reasons I hope you’re smart enough to figure out). Now, after all the ridicule by Obama’s administration regarding those who weren’t transparent enough we have our officials locking themselves in a room somewhere, with no cameras, no C-SPAN (Which was promised directly by the President), no openness whatsoever! How hypocritical can we get! So let me get this straight…now we promise things in our campaigns, attack those who don’t show enough of those things, and then we ourselves will be completely closed and disregard those promises…please.

I’m sure many of you owe some sort of money or have at some point. What if you owed this much http://www.usdebtclock.org/ ? If you’re like me the first thought that went through your mind is how is the U.S. even operating, at least how are we operating legally? If any one person owed even a fraction of that amount they would be forced into bankruptcy until it was fixed. Then we have our wonderful unemployment that is well over 10% (Obama promised it wouldn’t go over 9%). And to make matters worse there is the idea floating around that there may be another proposed Stimulus package…I know I cried too. When that much money is involved its hard to know where to start to fix it, but my guess is we start at the Federal Reserve.

Lastly, and probably far too briefly to do it justice, I need to touch on the healthcare bill. First things first, if we the people do not support it get your act together Mr. Representative because you work for us. Step off your high horse and your very deep rooted feelings of detachment from the people who put you in your position and starting listening. WE DON’T LIKE IT! (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/healthcare/september_2009/health_care_reform). Your job description is in the name of the position, REPRESENTative…so start representing the people.

Until next time, Adieu.

“My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!”

~Thomas Jefferson

Once again, I’ve been trying to keep tabs and focus on the disheveled U.S. political arena and the issues that are arising in said system. I’m sensing, for myself, that during the next four years I’m going to be let down by the new Presidential administration that is now in full swing in decision making. The one thing that I’m incredibly bothered by is this whole business of prosecuting Bush-era officials. There is more than one reason that ANY American that pays attention at all to what is going on in current events, let alone has an understanding of American history , should have a problem with this so lets get into it.

Just an aside before jumping into the meat of the matter. In a follow up to my last blog, the intensive-interrogative techniques (I’m not calling waterboarding torture because 1. I don’t believe it to be torture, and 2. I think people should develop their own opinions so I keep it broad) we now know since my last blog were not all unsuccessful. In fact, for all you west coasters, it brought about the release of information on a plot to destroy the Liberty Tower in Los Angeles…who would’ve thought we did it for good reasons?

First is the issue of how many Presidents have been prosecuted post their administrative days on war time judgment calls. As I recall it, the answer is NONE. Why is that so? To answer this question only takes common sense, because during war time the President has to make decisions on the basis of what is best for the citizens that he is put in place by. And in this case the “best” refers to the citizens safety. There is more than just one President who COULD BE put up on the chopping block for their actions, but no one in their right mind would ever say such a thing because it was NECESSARY. President Lincoln could be prosecuted for suspending Habeas Corpus, but that would be foolish because he was making calls that were deemed necessary during a time of war and kept the Union SAFE. President Truman could easily be tried for deciding to use nuclear weapons against Japan to end the Pacific campaign of WWII, but he wasn’t because it was a decision that was deemed necessary and significantly decreased the American casualties, and kept us SAFE. I don’t expect many people to remember this, but after the attacks on September 11th more than just New Yorkers and Pentagon officials were worried about their safety. President Bush had the highest approval rating of any President and no one gave a damn about what he had to do to keep our country SAFE, they were just happy to be SAFE.

Next, I had a talk with a good friend of mine yesterday about the current situations that are arising, this very topic being one of them. He brought to my attention not only is it wrong to prosecute these people, but it would be legal disaster. First you’ve got President Obama saying that they wouldn’t be prosecuted, then going back and saying “just kidding this is the attorney generals decision.” Then you have the fact that no other President has ever been tried for making war time decisions, thats foolishness. Thirdly, it will be a taint on Obama’s administration and he doesn’t need that and it will be as FOX News loves to call it a “witch hunt.”

Finally, I’d like to voice my direct opinion. If the final decision is to start prosecuting, then I better see literally EVERYONE who was involved being prosecuted. And yes, that does include you Ms. Nancy Pelosi and you Mr. John McCain. Anyone who knew that this was going on and didn’t vocalize about it and/or admit to knowing it immediately (which as far as I know was none of them), should be prosecuted. If they want a fair prosecution then include everyone involved. Overall I’d like no one to be prosecuted and this ridiculous self- righteous brigade to be ended, for everyones sake.

Recently I’ve been paying close attention to the political mess that is currently the United States. So much is going on that I find myself having to pick and choose sides on and not so surprisingly I seem to be slipping more toward the conservative side of things. More specifically I’m referring to the two most recent big events of the “New American Tea Parties” and the release of the formerly Top Secret files on CIA Interrogation during the Bush Administration.

The first event of the Tea Parties on April 15th was a no brainer for me to choose my side, or in this case be sideless. I firmly believe that citizens from all ends of the spectrum (except maybe socialist) took part in this and do believe we need CHANGE, and in this case [be it economic] not the change President Obama is putting out. I in no way intend to disrespect our President regardless of what party he represents and what beliefs that may entail, I think it to be a damn shame what the Americans, and I use the term loosely, did to our former President Bush. You may disagree with him, but in no way do I think that disrespecting and making a fool of our countries leader is justifiable. That being said, on April 15th, tax day, we had roughly 6 million citizens in 700 cities across 50 states get together a vocalize their opinions on what is going on. It was encouraging for me in the sense that party lines were dropped and people were getting out there and voicing their problem with the situation. One person was holding a sign that said “Republicans suck too” and that perhaps was one of the most brilliant things to be said, for those who didn’t pick up on it…he was saying that its not just a one-sided problem its an issue that crosses all political lines that needs to be addressed. In lieu of this, politicians wake up! We need a better change than taking money from those who work and giving it to those who don’t, it doesn’t make much sense when you hear it that way incredible! This isn’t an Obama problem, this is a nicely dressed-agenda filled-nepotistically oriented system problem.

The second event of the release of these CIA Interrogation files was a bit harder for me. On the one side, I really do believe that the government is accountable for its actions and ultimately to the people, so the release of these files is important from that perspective. On the other side, I do believe there is much that goes on now adays that, put simply, is better for the citizens to not know. However, its far too late to be talking about that because SOME of the files have already been released. Notice the “some” is in all caps. According to former VP Dick Cheney, there are files that have not been released. I think it beyond coincidental and reasonable that the ones that he claims have not been released are files that happen to denote the success of some of the interrogative techniques used. I give him the benefit of the doubt in his claims, because i find it highly unlikely that 100% of the techniques were a failure. As it may, I will be awaiting the release of further information regarding what went on during the Bush administration so i can further decide where I stand on this and related issues.
